Phytochemical evaluation of Cassia obtusifolia L
Phytochemical evaluation of Cassia obtusifolia L. and Cassia tora L. Upadhyaya, S. K.; Singh, V. (Dep. Bot., Meerut Univ., Meerut 250 005, India). Proc. - Indian Acad. Sci., Plant Sci., 96(4), 321-6 (English) 1986. CODEN: PIPLDS. ISSN: 0253-410X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) C. obtusifolia And C. tora are distinct in several important phytochem. characters. Obtusin, obtusifolin and stigmasterol are confined only to C. obtusifolia and chrysoobtusin to C. tora. They also differ in their amino acid constituents. 70588-05-5 and 60-18-4 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. Cystine, g-hydroxyarginine and aspartic acid are present in C. tora but absent in C. obtusifolia. Histidine, which is present in C. obtusifolia is absent in C. tora. Also there was no natural hybridization between C. obtusifolia and C. tora and thus showing complete genetical segregation. This supports their treatment as two distinct species. The presence of 3 addnl. secondary constituents, stigmasterol, obtusin and obtusifolin in C. obtusifolia suggest that C. tora was derived from C. obtusifolia. .
