DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Potato leak is a post-harvest disease of potatoes caused by Pythium ultimum, a fungus with mefenoxam-resistant strains. A trial in 2004 sought to evaluate in-furrow field treatments with mefenoxam by using randomized complete block designs with 4 replicates of field plots, each consisting of 4 6-m rows 0.9 m apart, at farms in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island. Cut, Elite 4, or Foundation Class seed tubers were planted between May 14-30, and the crops were raised following std. crop management practices. No significant differences in plant stands, foliar disease symptoms, or tuber yields, and no late blight tuber rot or other major tuber-borne diseases were obsd. in the four trials. All fungicide treatments in Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario were ineffective against potato leak. However, in Prince Edward Island, in-furrow treatments of azoxystrobin, and mefenoxam 480 SL plus azoxystrobin or methenoxam, significantly reduced surface rot compared to that from the control plots. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Pink rot is a post-harvest disease of potatoes caused by Phytophthora erythroseptica, a fungus with mefenoxam-resistant strains. Trials were carried out in 2004 to evaluate the effectiveness of in-furrow field treatments with mefenoxam against pink rot. No significant differences in plant stands, foliar disease symptoms or tuber yields, and no late blight tuber rot or other major tuber-borne diseases were obsd. at the 4 sites. In-furrow applications of the mefenoxam EC and SL formulations dramatically reduced surface rot, the depth of rot in tubers and disease incidence, relative to the check, azoxystrobin, and thiamethoxam treatments, in Prince Edward Island but not in Alberta and Manitoba. In Ontario, some disease suppression was achieved with in-furrow applications of mefenoxam SL with or without thiamethoxam. .
