- Effects of admixtures on portland cement concretes incorporating blast-furnace slag and fly ash. Mailvaganam, Noel P.; Bhagrath, R. S.; Shaw, K. L. (USA). Publ. SP - Am. Concr. Inst., 79(Fly Ash, Silica Fume, Slag Other Miner. By-Prod. Concr., Vol. 1), 519-37 (English) 1983. CODEN: PSAIDE. ISSN: 0193-2527. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 58 (Cement, Concrete, and Related Building Materials) The effect of chloride, chloride-free accelerators, and superplasticizer admixts. on the physicochem. properties of 2 types of concrete were detd. Fly ash and slag at 30 wt.% cement replacement were compared to a ref. mix with 100% normal portland cement. Two series of mixes utilizing different admixt. dosages and cured at 22 and 5° were investigated. 71029-85-1 and 9003-08-1 are also in the experiment. The compressive strength results and temp. time curves indicate that at 22° all 3 admixts. were effective in offsetting the early strength redn. due to cement replacement. With the exception of fly ash mixes, the 28-day strengths were close to, and in some instances exceeded, the strength of the 100% portland cement mixes. At the lower temps. (5°) the performance of conventional accelerating admixts. was marginal in comparison with the superplasticizer. In general the order of admixt. effectiveness obsd. in both series of mixes was in the order: superplasticizer > chloride > nonchloride. .
