Thus, a preculture of C. glutamicum was inoculated into 7 L of a medium contg. molasses 90, NH4OAc 30, MgSO4 0.25, MnSO4 0.01, FeSO4 0.01, K2HPO4 0.5, KH2PO4 0.5 g/L, plus biotin 30 and thiamin 100 mg/L. Incubation was at 30° for 24 hr with aeration and stirring. Molasses was added as the fermn. progressed to keep the sugar content at 3% until the end of the fermn., when molasses addn. was stopped and sugar content decreased to <1%. Yield of valine was 373 g.
