This new sequence proceeds in good overall yields and with high stereoselectivity. Thus, 3b-tert-butoxy-5a-androstan-17-one gave 94% epoxy sulfone I, which on cleavage with HO- yielded 60% II. The crystal structure of a steroid epoxy sulfone intermediate was detd.Except for chemicals metioned above, 7205-98-3 and 89211-08-5 are also used. .
