DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 39 (Synthetic Elastomers and Natural Rubber) The title compns. with high modulus and excellent tear strength and bending fatigue characteristics contain high-cis 1,4-diene polymers, prepd. in the presence of lanthanide-series rare earth metal catalysts, contg. 5-40% syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene with high m.p. Thus, a mixt. of butadiene 4.6, Nd 2-ethylhexanoate [73227-23-3] 0.93, acetylacetone [123-54-6] 1.85, Et3Al [97-93-8] 27.7, and Et2AlCl [96-10-6] 2.3 mmol was aged at 40° for 30 min to give a catalyst which was added to a mixt. of 1.5 kg cyclohexane and 500 g butadiene, and heated at 70° for 1.5 h (to obtain a high-cis 1,4-polybutadiene of cis-1,4 content 90%), treated with 3 kg toluene, 150 g butadiene, 0.15 mmol Co octanoate [6700-85-2], 4 mmol Et3Al, 2.5 mmol Et2AlCl, and 1.5 mmol CS2, and further polymd. at 25° for 1 h to give a polymer blend contg. 10.4% syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene of m.p. 203°. A compn. from natural rubber 50, the above rubber blend 50, carbon black 50, arom. oil 10, ZnO 4, stearic acid 2, N-oxydiethylene-2-benzothiazylsulfenamide 0.6, di-2-benzothiazyl disulfide 0.15, and S 2.0 parts was vulcanized at 145° for 40 min to give a specimen with 300% modulus 136 kg/cm2, tensile strength 275 kg/cm2, elongation 585%, JIS A hardness 69, tear strength 100 kg/cm2, and fatigue cycle (125% elongation) 170.
