DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) Carbenoxolone Na (I) [7421-40-1] was detd. by radioimmunoassay using antiserums prepd. from rabbits immunized with a carbenoxolone-bovine serum albumin conjugate. The sensitivity of the assay was 1 ng I/ml. Crossreactivity studies with analogs of I indicated that the antiserums were relatively most specific for substitutions at C-11, C-18, and C-30 of the I mol. and greater changes at C-3 were necessary for recognition by the antiserums. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 2 (Hormone Pharmacology) In healthy volunteers, chronic administration of carbenoxolone sodium (I Na) [7421-40-1] (200 mg/day, for 18 days) induced only a transient decrease in natriuresis and only a transient increase of exchangeable Na. The mineralcorticoid-like effects of carbenoxolone, such as a decrease of serum K, wt. gain, and a blood pressure increase persisted throughout the entire test period. During high NaCl intake, the increases of serum Na and body wt. under carbenoxolone did not correlate with variations of exchangeable Na. The renormalization of Na excretion did not correlate with deviations of creatinine clearance, nor blood pressure from control values. The suppression of plasma renin [9015-94-5] concn. and of aldosterone excretion under carbenoxolone was pronounced, exponential, and homogenous. No correlation between renin suppression and renal Na excretion was obsd. Thus, the renin-angiotensin [1407-47-2] system does not appear to be involved in the Na escape phenomenon.
