Use of bioassays for allelochemicals in aquatic plants
Use of bioassays for allelochemicals in aquatic plants. Anderson, Lars W. J. (Bot. Dep., U. S. Dep. Agric., Davis, CA 95616, USA). ACS Symp. Ser., 268(Chem. Allelopathy), 351-70 (English) 1985. CODEN: ACSMC8. ISSN: 0097-6156. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Explants of Hydrilla verticillata and vegetative propagules of Potamogeton nodosus and P. pectinatus were used in detecting inhibitory or growth regulatory compds. For example, P. nodosus responded to gibberellic acid [77-06-5] and sulfometuron [74223-56-6] within 7 days after exposure. ABA [21293-29-8] caused a change of leaf development and morphol. of P. nodosus. Hydrilla Explants responded to herbicides the same as whole plants; fluridone [59756-60-4] caused chlorosis in new shoots.
Sulfometuron, chlorsulfuron, metsulfuron methyl, and UC77892 on Christmas trees
Sulfometuron, chlorsulfuron, metsulfuron methyl, and UC77892 on Christmas trees. Kuhns, Larry J.; Twerdok, Gregory L.; Haramaki, Chiko (Dep. Hortic., Pennsylvania State Univ., University Park, PA 16802, USA). Proc. Annu. Meet. Northeast. Weed Sci. Soc., 39, 247-8 (English) 1985. CODEN: PNWSBF. ISSN: 0078-1703. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Of the title herbicides sprayed in June, only 2 oz 75% sulfometuron [74223-56-6]/acre gave adequate weed control; 4-10 lb UC 77892 [89469-05-6] active ingredient/acre caused no injury, but provided almost no control. The injury caused by sulfometuron varied with species. Douglas fir, Fraser fir, and Colorado spruce were stunted and chlorotic, with severity being rate-dependent. Scotch and white pines were not severely injured. Initially, bud break was delayed, the needles were slow to develop, and there was some discoloration of needles contacted by the spray. At the end of the growing season there was some stunting of the growth on lower limbs, but bud development on the stunted branches was satisfactory. The injury caused by the herbicides varied greatly within treatments. This variation may have been due to plant size and the amt. of chem. contacting the foliage. Except for sulfometuron on pines and the UC 77892, all other treatments were too phytotoxic to consider further use in plantings of the species tested.
