The insulating oil has excellent elec. characteristics, which are probably due to the almost sym. mol. structure, and is useful for condensers and transformers. Thus, pentaerythritol and caproic acid were kept at 240° in N to give pentaerythritol tetracaproate [7445-47-8] with flash point 254° and pour point -40°.

New thermodn. models are necessary to describe well the behavior of these fluids, but at the moment only few exptl. data are available in the literature. The work presented in this paper is part of our research program aimed to evaluate the soly. of refrigerants in com. oils. The d. of five different pentaerythritol esters is presented, which are used as components of the com. POE oils (i. 7445-47-8 and 15834-04-5 which are cas registry numbers of chemicals are mentioned.e., pentaerythritol ester of butyric acid (PEC4), pentaerythritol ester of valeric acid (PEC5), pentaerythritol ester of hexanoic acid (PEC6), pentaerythritol ester of heptanoic acid (PEC7), and pentaerythritol ester of octanoic acid (PEC8)). The exptl. compressed liq. d. data were correlated by means of a particular equation that is also presented in this paper. .
