HCl prior to pyrolysis to give vinylidene fluoride (III) [75-38-7]. Thus, I was fed at 1 kmol/h with 1.05 kmol/h Cl to a system of 4 chlorination zones at 40.degree. contg. UV lamps. The reaction mixt. was sprayed with 2.5 kmol/h CCl4. The product obtained, which contained II 0.97, HCl 1.058, CCl4 0.79 kmol/h and other haloethanes, was fed to an absorption column with 12.9 kcal CCl4 at -6.degree. and 1 atm. The column was pressurized to give a product steam contg. a conc. of II which was pyrolyzed at 550.degree. to give III.
