DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) The monomer reactivity ratios in copolymn. of butadiene (I) [106-99-0] with 3-methyl-1,4,6-heptatriene (II) [925-52-0] in the presence of TiCl2I2-(iso-Bu)3Al [100-99-2] catalyst, and of I with 1,3,6-octatriene (III) [7550-45-0] in the presence of TiCl4-(iso-Bu)3Al catalyst, indicated random distribution of monomer units in the resulting copolymers. Changes in the glass transition temps. of the copolymers with their compn. also supported random distribution of monomer units. The rate const. of the addn. of I to I-terminated active centers in the I-III systems were higher by 2 orders of magnitude than the corresponding rate const. in the I-II system. The IR data indicated that an increase in the content of II units in the I-II copolymer decreased the overall content of 1,4-cis structures and increased that of 1,4-trans and 1,2-units.

This liq. 56-23-5 and 1191-47-5 are also in the experiment. and the granular product were then mixed in 80 mL CCl4 and heated to 80° for 2 h, cooled, filtered, washed, and vacuum dried to obtain 10 g solid catalyst (3.1% Ti) as uniform particles of av. diam. 40 m. When this catalyst was used along with Et3Al and Et2AlCl for slurry polymn. of propylene at 70° and 2 kg/cm2 (gage), the isotactic polymer [25085-53-4] (96.1% insol. in heptane) was obtained with catalyst activity 575 g/g-h-atm., compared with 93.6% and 372 g/g-h-atm. using a catalyst prepd. with PhCl in place of CCl4. .
