Infusion of homocholine (18 mmoles) for 2 h into the lateral ventricle of the rat produced 2.3 nmoles/g of acetylhomocholine [10172-82-4] by which represented 0.035% of the detected homocholine. Infusion of the same quantity of b-methylcholine produced 1.0 nmole/g of acetyl-b-methylcholine [55-92-5] representing 0.025% of the detected b-methylcholine. Although pretreatment with hemicholinium-3 reduced the amt. of acetylated product formed from either analog, the redn. was significant only for acetyl-b-methylcholine.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) A. velutinana and H. virescens both required choline [62-49-7] for growth and development when reared on semisynthetic diets, the optimum levels being 50 and >100 mg/100 g of diet resp. No choline analog tested replaced choline adequately. Dimethylethylcholine [13205-69-1] allowed some adult emergence but development was slower and mortality higher than with choline. There are some commonly used reagents like 62-49-7 in this article. In A. velutinana, dimethylisopropylcholine [21618-44-0] and b-methylcholine [7562-87-0], although inadequate as choline replacements can spare the dietary choline requirement. Isopropylethanolamine [109-56-8] was a growth inhibitor for A. velutinana but not for H. virescens. ..
