The anion of the complex salt is simply a complex of neutral TCNQ and the TCNQ radical anion. Preferred polymers have an ionization potential of ~8-12 eV, e.g. poly(vinyl butyral), PMMA, and polycarbonate. Preferred solvents are DMF and DMSO. The max. cond. is achieved when all of the TCNQ salt in the polymer is in the complex form. However, the lowest concn. of TCNQ salt in complex form necessary to achieve a desired resistance is to be used. The films may contain ~50 wt.% overall TCNQ salt. SEM indicates that the films are actually a network of filaments, which are probably polymer-coated microcrystals of TCNQ salt. .
