DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 29 (Organometallic and Organometalloidal Compounds) LiCH2Cl was generated and captured at -78° by adding BuLi to a mixt. of ICH2Cl and RB(OR1)2 [e.g., R = Me, vinyl, B(OR1)2 = 4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborol-2-yl; R = Me2CH, Ph, PhCH2OCH2, (S)-PhCHEt (I), B(OR1)2 = pinanedioxyboryl] in THF to give the homologous RCH2B(OR1)2 in 90-95% yields with retention of the configuration of the R group. 75927-49-0 is also in the experiment. Retention of configuration with I was proved by oxidn. of the product to (S)-PhCHEtCH2OH with H2O2. Addn. of BuLi to B(OCHMe2)3 and ICH2Cl at -78°, followed by acidification with anhyd. HCl and distn. yielded 84% ClCH2B(OCHMe2)2. .
