- Effects of lysine analogs on Penicillium chrysogenum
- Effects of lysine analogs on Penicillium chrysogenum. Friedrich, C. G.; Demain, A. L. (Dep. Nutr. Food Sci., Massachusetts Inst. Technol., Cambridge, Mass., USA). Appl. Environ. Microbiol., 34(6), 706-9 (English) 1977. CODEN: AEMIDF. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Section cross-reference(s): 16 Compds. structurally related to lysine were tested against P. chrysogenum Wis. 54-1255 for inhibition of growth, sporulation, and benzylpenicillin [61-33-6] formation. This strain was relatively resistant to lysine analogs. The compds. that were the more active inhibitors of growth and whose activities were reversed by L-lysine-HCl [657-27-2] were 2,6-diamino-4-hexynoic acid-2HCl [65579-76-2], N-e-methyllysine-HCl [7622-29-9], N-a-methyllysine [7431-89-2], and DL-a,e-diaminopimelic acid [2577-62-0]. These 4 compds. also inhibited sporulation, which was more sensitive to inhibition than growth was. Analogs strongly inhibiting benzylpenicillin formation by resting mycelia were diaminohexynoic acid and N-e-methyllysine. The action of the most active analog (diaminohexynoic acid) on penicillin synthesis was reversed by DL-a-aminoadipic acid [626-71-1].
