D/L-arabinitol ratios in different infected periods of systemic candidiasis rabbits and 14 cases confirmed systemic mycosis by isolation of Candida species, Cryptococcus neoformance, Penicillium marneffei and Aspergillus from blood, urine, marrow culture, and also in 8 cases of suspected systemic fungal infection but with neg. culture. Those in thirty one person as normal control were also detected. The D/L-Arabinitol ratios in plasma of pre-infected expt. rabbits were lower than that of lowest detected value and could not be detected. The D/L-arabinitol ratio was 2.359±1.387 3 day after inoculation, 3.631±2.719 7 days after inoculattion and 4.640±2.045 14 days after infection. The mean D/L-arabinitol ratio of normal person (n=31) was 1.535±0.924, while that of 22 tested patients was 4.472±2.094. The value of fourteen patients confirmed systemic fungal infection was 4.157±1.491, and that in eight suspected candidiasis was over normal value (5.024±2.991). There are close relation between the D/L-arabinitol value of plasma and systemic fungal infection. Gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry with selected ion monitoring method not only can be used to detect systemic candidiasis early but also to detect other systemic fungal infection, and also to attain the goal of early diagnosis.
