DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Dormancy was induced during storage of L. spicata corms grown in Israeli summer conditions, but plants left in soil continued vegetative growth. Corms of winter-grown plants sprouted freely. Treatment with GA3 restored both sprouting and flowering in summer-grown corms, but in winter corms GA3 was effective only after corms were stored at low temp. All the plants flowered after 4 wk at 2° and GA3 treatment. The content of gibberellins in the main bud of freshly excavated corms decreased during the first 18 d of storage but increased to the initial level after 4 mo of cold storage. The no. of flowering stems increased to 2.5/corm when corms were cold-stored up to 75 days, but decreased with a longer storage. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Seed treatment with gibberellic acid (GA3) at 100 mg/L inhibited root growth by V. radiata by 27-35%. Thiamin at 100 mg/L stimulated root growth by 12-47%. Root growth inhibition by GA3 was effectively reversed by thiamin with the percentage recovery exceeding control values. The stimulation of protein formation by thiamin was reduced by GA3; however, their interaction maintained the increase in protein content over the control. .
