Other additives, Citroflex 2 [77-93-0], Citroflex A-2 [77-89-4], Citroflex A-4 [77-90-7], Polysorbate 80 [9005-65-6], triacetin [102-76-1], glycerol [56-81-5], PEG 6000 [25322-68-3], glucose [50-99-7], sucrose [57-50-1], NaCl, and colloidal silica were also investigated. Et cellulose film-coated tablets showed the least tendency to adhere of all the formulations. The film-coating agent was the most important factor affecting the tendency of film-coated tablets to adhere to the esophagus wall. Pharmacoat 606 gave rise to coatings with the greatest adherent properties. Adherent properties of most Et cellulose-film-coated tablets of almost all tablets having coatings based upon methacrylate derivs. were very slight. Among the plasticizers, PEG 6000 increased the adhesion. The solvents and the thickness of the coating had no effect. By using Et cellulose or Eudragit, film-coated substained-release tablets can be made which will have a low tendency to esophageal adherence.

(Tg) of polymers (used in drug coating) such as Eudragit L 100-55 [87659-25-4], cellulose acetate phthalate(CAP) [9004-38-0], and hydroxypropyl Me cellulose phthalate (HP 55) [9050-31-1] was detd. by a thermally stimulated depolarization current technique. Polymer films were prepd. by spreading an org. soln. on a glass plate. The expts. were run in a N atm. in a relaxation spectrometer. The plasticizers had very little effect on the Tg of HP 55 and CAP. The explanation for this effect is given. The plasticizers, however, affect the Tg of Eudragit L 100-55. There was a marked decrease in the Tg of this polymer when propylene glycol was used.
