Dep., Trinity Coll., Dublin, UK). J. Polym. Sci., Polym. Chem. Ed., 22(2), 303-18 (English) 1984. CODEN: JPLCAT. ISSN: 0449-296X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) Fe ion-contg. polymers were prepd. by reaction of atactic poly(vinylpyridine) (I) with FeCl3 or Fe(NO3)3 in MeOH soln. Molar ratios (r) of Fe3+ to 4-vinylpyridine (II) moiety were 1:2, 1:6, and 1:20. Three kinds of Fe centers were characterized from 57Fe Moessbauer spectra at 4.2-290 K. IR spectra of the samples were also measured. All samples contained amorphous hydrated ferric oxide particles that exhibited super-paramagnetic behavior at low temps. The size of the clusters (102-103 Fe atoms per particle) was estd. from the av.There are some commonly used reagents with their cas registry numbers 7705-08-0 and 25232-41-1 in this article. blocking temp. TBav, which is sensitive to r. For FeCl3-I prepns. with Fe:II of 1:2, 1:6, and 1:20, TBav was 37, 10, and <4 K, resp. A small proportion (<10%) of high-spin Fe2+ centers was found in most samples. A third type of signal attributable to O-bridged ferric dimers was found in FeCl3-I prepns. with Fe-II of 1:2 or 1:6 but not in Fe(NO3)3-I samples. This species is probably [Cl3Fe-O-FeCl3]2-. Interactions between the polymer and the various Fe centers were weak. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 25 (Benzene, Its Derivatives, and Condensed Benzenoid Compounds) The title chlorination at 30° in the presence of FeCl3-I2 gave m-ClC6H4COCl and Cl2C6H3COCl in yields which increased with the FeCl3 and iodine concns. BzCl reacted with ICl formed during the reaction to give m-IC6H4COCl, which also catalyzed the chlorination in the presence of FeCl3 by acting as a Cl-transfer agent and forming m-Cl2IC6H4COCl. PhI-FeCl3 and, to a lesser extent, PhI-I2 also catalyzed the title reaction. .
