- Effects of ammonium peroxydisulfate aqueous solution on polyethylene surface
- Effects of ammonium peroxydisulfate aqueous solution on polyethylene surface. Xu, Hueilin; Zhang, Kai (Polym. Res. Inst., Chengdu Univ. Sci. Technol., Chengdu, Peop. Rep. China). Gaofenzi Tongxun, (2), 101-8 (Chinese) 1984. CODEN: KFTTAR. ISSN: 0453-2880. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) In order to evaluate the exact mechanism of an improvement on adhesiveness of polyethylene (I) [9002-88-4] surface by pretreating it with aq. soln. of ammonium peroxydisulfate (II) [7727-54-0], studies were conducted by XPS and other techniques. From the exptl. results, O-contg. groups such as carbonyl, aldehyde and carboxyl etc. are produced on the I surface due to the oxidative effect of II. From the results of XPS anal., the oxidn. depth of high d. I is <40 ?. For low d. I, an even oxidn. layer with a depth of 40-90 ? is obsd. From the extn. expts., no residue formed by crosslinking is found on the I surface treated by the aq. soln. of II. The adhesive strength of the treated I with epoxy adhesive is apparently increased. On the basis of the results obtained, the mechanism of the improvement on adhesiveness of I surface by treating it with aq. soln. of II was discussed.
- Manufacture of synthetic fiber paper from a graft copolymer
- Manufacture of synthetic fiber paper from a graft copolymer. (III). Grafting of styrene to poly(vinyl alcohol) fibers and application to synthetic fiber paper. Nishiyama, Masashi (Gov. Ind. Res. Inst., Shikoku, Japan). Kami Pa Gikyoshi, 31(11), 767-74 (Japanese) 1977. CODEN: KAGIAU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 43 (Cellulose, Lignin, Paper, and Other Wood Products) Polystyrene (I) [9003-53-6] was grafted onto heat-treated polyvinyl alc., fibers in the presence of NH4 [7727-54-0] or K persulfate [7727-21-1] with graft efficiency 40-60%,. The breaking length of heat-treated paper prepd. from the grafted fibers and coated with I in ratio 5:3 increased with increasing degree of grafting and reached a const. value at >40% graft efficiency. The breaking length of air-dried paper had a const. value, as did the burst factor. The tear factor for heat-treated paper indicated a max. value at 15% grafting, but for the air-dried paper, the tear factor decreased with increasing grafting.
