- Bacterial selenocysteine lyase. Nakayama, Toru; Esaki, Nobuyoshi; Yonaha, Kazuo; Tanaka, Hidehiko; Soda, Kenji (Chem. Res. Inst., Kyoto Univ., Uji 611, Japan). Ganryu Aminosan, 6(1), 175-8 (Japanese) 1983. CODEN: GAMNDY. ISSN: 0387-6667. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 7 (Enzymes) Section cross-reference(s): 10 Selenocysteine lyase was detected in various bacteria, including Alcaligenes viscolactis and Pseudomonas alkanolytica, but was scarcely detectable in yeast and fungi. Bacterial selenocysteine lyase required pyridoxal 5'-phosphate as a coenzyme, as does the pig liver enzyme, although the latter is immunol. unrelated to the bacterial enzyme. The bacterial lyase is specific for L-selenocysteine, and produces H2Se and L-alanine in the presence of dithiothreitol. L-Cysteine, S-methyl-L-cysteine, and cysteamine completely inhibited the reaction.
