DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 64 (Pharmaceutical Analysis) Section cross-reference(s): 9 The tertiary alkaloids in various parts of U. rhynchophylla (a medicinal plant) were quant. detd. by high-performance liq. chromatog. contg. a Radial Pak C8 column [MeCN-0.05 M NH4OAc buffer (pH 4.0) () as mobile phase]. Approx. 97% of total alkaloids detected in the hook, small stem and leaf were the oxindole alkaloids isocorynoxeine [51014-29-0], isorhynchophylline [6859-01-4], corynoxeine [630-94-4] and rhynchophylline [76-66-4]. The bark of the underground part contained ~96% indole alkaloids (mainly hirsutene [59372-72-4] and hirsutine [7729-23-9]) and ~4% oxindole alkaloids. Contents of total oxindole alkaloids and total indole alkaloids in the bark of the aerial part were 56.3 and 43.7%, resp. The alkaloid contents in the wood was low. However, the ratios of rare alkaloids (corynantheine [18904-54-6] and dihydrocorynantheine [50439-68-4])/total alkaloids in the wood were higher than those in the other parts. .
