- Correction of: Variation in response of four nightshades (Solanum spp.) to herbicides. Ogg, Alex G., Jr. (Agric. Res. Serv., Washington State Univ., Pullman, WA 99164-6421, USA). Weed Sci., 34(5), 765-72 (English) 1986. CODEN: WEESA6. ISSN: 0043-1745. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) In field expts. at Prosser, WA, black nightshade (S. nigrum), eastern black nightshade (S. americanum), hairy nightshade (S. sarrachoides), and sometimes accessions within a species responded differentially to herbicides applied preplant incorporated, preemergence, or postemergence. The response of the nightshades to some of the herbicides also varied between years. Generally, black nightshade was more tolerant of herbicides than were the other 3 species. An accession of black nightshade from Minnesota were the most tolerant of herbicides of 8 accessions evaluated. Of the 25 herbicides evaluated, preplant-incorporated applications of ethalfluralin [55283-68-6] and preemergence applications of alachlor [15972-60-8], chloramben [133-90-4], lactofen [77501-63-4], and metolachlor [51218-45-2] controlled all species best. These herbicides reduced the oven-dry wts. of both accessions of all 4 species of nightshades by 393%. Nightshades varied widely in their response to the thiocarbamates.
- Chemical control of Striga
- Chemical control of Striga. Eplee, Robert E. (USDA APHIS, Whiteville, NC 28472, USA). Striga, Pap. Workshop Biol. Control Striga, Meeting Date 1983, 113-23. Edited by: Ayensu, Edward S. ICSU Press: Paris, Fr. (English) 1984. CODEN: 53DUAP. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Pre-emergence herbicides, such as treflan [1582-09-8], Prowl [40487-42-1], Basalin [33245-39-5], Balan [1861-40-1], Goal [42874-03-3], Dacthal [1861-32-1], and Casoron [1194-65-6], were effective against Striga asiatica. Some effective postemergence herbicides were: 2,4-D [94-75-7], Cobra [77501-63-4], Gramoxone [1910-42-5], and paraquat [4685-14-7]. Soil fumigants and germination stimulants were also used to control Striga. Application methodol. is discussed.
