DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) The cooked cured-meat pigment dinitrosyl ferrohemochrome [26202-48-2] was synthesized from hemin [16009-13-5], a Fe3+ porphyrin, and gaseous NO in buffered solns. Reductants used were ascorbic acid [50-81-7], isoascorbic acid [16009-13-5], Na ascorbate [134-03-2], and Na dithionite [7775-14-6]. The purity of the pigment so obtained was >97%. Sodium ascorbate was the most effective reducing agent. Application of this pigment to meats reproduced the characteristic color of nitrite-cured products on thermal processing.

Na montmorillonite, a carboxylated polymer, and NaCl to remove dissolved O and prevent the corrosion of metal surfaces of drilling equipment caused by O. Thus, 350 g of a Na2S2O4-Na2S2O6 mixt. was dissolved in 294 g diesel oil and 10 g oleophilic clay was added. An aq. soln. was prepd. contg. Wyoming bentonite 4.54, a maleic anhydride-vinyl acetate copolymer [9011-07-8] 0.227, and NaCl 5.45 kg/159 L, and this aq. fluid contained 6.3 ppm dissolved O at 23°. The O-removing additive mixt. was added at 45.4 g/159 L to the aq. soln. at 22.9°, and the O content was immediately reduced from 6.3 to 2.0 and after 5 min to 0.75 ppm.
