DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 60 (Sewage and Wastes) Section cross-reference(s): 56 A water-sol. inorg. Al salt is added to an oil emulsion-contg. wastewater at pH 5-6.5 to adsorb the oil on Al(OH)3 and to remove the resulting ppt. The ppt.-free water is treated by reverse osmosis at 20-100 kg/cm2 and 70-95% NaCl retention. The method is useful for treating a wastewater from a machine shop or a metal fabricating plant. Thus, Al2(SO4)3.18H2O [7784-31-8] soln. 50.degree. was added to a cutting oil (4860 ppm) contg. wastewater at pH 6. The ppt. was dewatered and incinerated. The ppt.-free water was treated by reverse osmosis at 40 kg/cm2 and 90% NaCl retention, and the treated water contained 1 ppm oil.

- Electron paramagnetic resonance of chromium(3+) in aluminum sulfate octadecahydrate (Al2(SO4)3.18H2O). Jain, V. K.; Seth, V. P. 16065-83-1 and 7784-31-8 are also occured in this study.; Bansal, R. S. (Dep. Phys., M.D. Univ., Rohtak 24001, India). Phys. Status Solidi B, 121(2), K201-K204 (English) 1984. CODEN: PSSBBD. ISSN: 0370-1972. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 77 (Magnetic Phenomena) The title EPR was detd. at 310, 296, and 77 K. The spectrum consists of a no. of intense lines between ~0.23 and ~0.46 T which arise from the allowed fine structure transitions (DM = ±1) of the Cr3+ centers. There are also many weak lines below ~0.23 T. Angular variation studies revealed the presence of 4 magnetically inequiv., but chem. equiv. Cr3+ complexes. The EPR measurements were analyzed by using a spin-Hamiltonian appropriate for Cr3+ in an axial cryst. field. The Cr magnetic complexes exhibit axial symmetry at 310, 296, and 77 K, and the magnitude of the spin-Hamiltonian parameter D decreased by ~73% as the temp. was lowered from 300 to 77 K. This result is discussed in terms of polarization of the Cr d electrons by the coordinated octahedron of H2O mols. .
