- Synthesis and structure of new bismuth containing oxychlorides: BiSr3O3Cl3 and BiCa3O3Cl3. Huang, Jinfan; Sleight, Arthur W. (Dep. Chem., Oregon State Univ., Corvallis, OR 97331-4003, USA). J. Solid State Chem., 96(1), 154-61 (English) 1992. CODEN: JSSCBI. ISSN: 0022-4596. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 78 (Inorganic Chemicals and Reactions) Section cross-reference(s): 75 A new BiSr3O3Cl3 was synthesized and structurally characterized from single crystal x-ray diffraction data. The compd. 1305-78-8 and 7787-60-2 are cas registry numbers. These chemicals are also mentioned in this article. crystallizes as orthorhombic, space group Pnma, a 6.687(2), b 11.4618(8), c 11.565(2) ?, Z = 4, R = 0.037, Rw = 0.038. From the formula wt. of 626.20, the d. is calcd. to be 4.693 g/cm3. The structure of BiSr3O3Cl3 can be described as a layered structure arranged in sequence Cl/Sr-O/Bi-Sr-O-Cl/Sr-O/Cl along the b axis. The Bi-Sr-O-Cl layer is unique among all the known Bi oxyhalides in that O and halide are mixed in 1 layer. Two types of Sr atom and one type of Bi atom are found. Sr of the Sr-O layer is coordinated by 3 O atoms with Sr-O distances 2.404(7)-2.557(6) ? and by 5 Cl atoms with Sr-Cl distances 3.010(2)-3.394(3) ?. Sr of the Bi-Sr-O-Cl layer is coordinated to 3 O atoms with Sr-O distances 2.419(8)-2.505(6) ? and to 6 Cl atoms with Sr-Cl distances 2.922(3)-3.796(4) ?. The Bi atom is coordinated by 3 O atoms and 2 Cl atoms with Bi-O bond lengths 2.062(8)-2.071(6) ? and Bi-Cl bond lengths of 3.472(3) ?. The isostructural BiCa3O3Cl3 was synthesized; the cell dimensions from single crystal data are a 6.383(3), b 10.803(3), c 11.422(3) ?. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 68 (Phase Equilibriums, Chemical Equilibriums, and Solutions) Section cross-reference(s): 69 The phase diagram of the pseudobinary system Bi2Se3/BiCl3 was studied by DTA, total pressure measurements and x-ray phase anal. The 2 ternary phases BiSeCl and Bi8Se9Cl6 melt incongruently at 395° and 540°, resp. Heats of formation and std. entropies of BiSeCl and Bi8Se9Cl6 were calcd. from vapor pressure data. .
