A drilling fluid contg. 12% brine, 1.08% Enjay Biopolymer 9700 polysaccharide, 2.4 ppb Ca lignosulfonate [8061-52-7], 0.6 ppb starch, 0.18 ppb chrome alum [7788-99-0], 1.24 ppb MgO and 11.5 ppb ground limestone graded to max. size of 420 .mu. passed into a core with 100% permeability reduces the permeability to 0% in 35.2 cumulative pore vols. After backflushing with 70 pore vols. the permeability is 90%. In a test, using only polysaccharide, and ground limestone, the permeability was only 30% after a backflush of 109 pore vols. .
