DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Section cross-reference(s): 17 I-enriched eggs are used as a medicine for treatment of inflammatory diseases. The medicine is free from any adverse reaction and can be ingested as a diet every day for enhancing adrenal function and promoting the secretion of adrenal steroid hormones, and thus treatment and prevention of inflammatory diseases. Ca(IO3)2 was added to hens' feed so that I content became 1000 ppm, and powd. seaweed was further added to the admixt. by 1%. The feed was fed to hens which had begun to lay eggs 4 mo previously. The I-enriched eggs obtained by said feeding were dried to produce powd. egg with I content of 265mg/kg. Mice with induced ear inflammation and fed the I-enriched egg powder showed redn. of inflammation. A clin. study with outpatients with perennial allergic rhinitis is also reported. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Section cross-reference(s): 17 The bioavailability of I in I-rich foods and in 2 red food dyes, erythrosine [16423-68-0] and rose bengal [11121-48-5], was detd. Apparent absorption and urinary excretion of I were measured in rats and men after ingestion of these I-rich materials. As a result, high apparent absorption (97-98% in rats) and urinary excretion (99-102% in men 48 h after ingestion) of I were shown for kombu (Laminaria japonica) and high-I eggs. Apparent absorption of I in rats and urinary I excretion in men from hijiki (Hizikia fusiformis) were both low (66% in rats and 10% in men 48 h after ingestion of boiled hijiki). Cooking of hijiki with soy sauce, vegetable oil, and sucrose [57-50-1] resulted in a higher urinary excretion of I (53% in men 48 h after ingestion). For erythrosine and rose bengal, on the other hand, very low apparent absorption (3 and 2% in rats and men, resp.) and urinary excretion (1% in men 48 h after ingestion) of I were obsd. .
