Div., Bhabha At. Res. Cent., Bombay 400085, India). Polyhedron, 3(9-10), 1125-9 (English) 1984. CODEN: PLYHDE. ISSN: 0277-5387. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 71 (Nuclear Technology) Section cross-reference(s): 68 Trivalent actinides, Am, Cm, Bk, and Cf, were extd. with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoylpyrazolone-5 (HPMBP) [4551-69-3] or 1-phenyl-3--methyl-4-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)pyrazolone-5 (HDMPP) [66755-20-2] in chloroform. With HPMBP, Am, Bk, and Cf are extd. as the self-adduct species M(PMBP)3×nHPMBP (n = 1 or 2) whereas in all the other systems formation of a nonadduct chelate species was obsd. With tri-n-octylphosphine oxide [78-50-2] (TOPO), as the neutral donor, the synergistic adduct species are M(A)3×mTOPO, where m is 1 or 2 in the above systems. The equil. consts. (b1, b2, and K2) for the org.-phase synergistic reactions were calcd. In Am(III)-different b-diketones-TOPO systems the equil. consts. follow the order HPMBP < HDMPP < thenoyltrifluoroacetone < benzoyltrifluoroacetone.

- The rate of mass transfer of uranium(IV) chloride between hydrochloric acid and neutral organophosphorus extractants. Chin, Chitsung; Zhou, Zuming; Mao, Jiajum; Liu, Zhiming; Zhang, Wenlai (Dep. Nucl. Sci., Fudan Univ., Shanghai, Peop. Rep. China). Radiochim. Acta, 36(4), 201-4 (English) 1984. CODEN: RAACAP. ISSN: 0033-8230. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 71 (Nuclear Technology) Section cross-reference(s): 68 The rate of mass transfer of UCl4 [10026-10-5] between aq. HCl solns. and TBP [126-73-8] or tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO) [78-50-2] in cyclohexane was detd. using the simple drop technique. The effect of temp. and the influence of the concns. of U(IV), TBP, or TOPO on the rates of transfer were examd. Pseudo 1st order with respect to the concns. of U(IV) and TBP or TOPO were obtained. The transfer rate increased with increasing temp. The apparent activation energies were 38.5 kJ/mol for TBP and 45.2 kJ/mol for TOPO over the temp. range of 10-45°. The rate controlling step may be the chem. reaction of UCl4 with TBP or TOPO at the interface.
