DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) An anhyd. cryst. form of ceftazidime (I) [72558-82-8] is produced by controlled dehydration of ceftazidime pentahydrate [78439-06-2]. The anhyd. form has improved storage stability and is esp. suited for parenteral administration. Thus, I pentahydrate was dried over P2O5 at 20-25° to const. wt. (~12 days) or at up to 50° in vacuo. The anhyd. I had lost 15.8% of its activity in 8 days and 22.5% in 15 days at 80°, whereas the pentahydrate had no activity after 8 days at 80°.
