Thus, Et succinylsuccinate [787-07-5] and phenylhydrazine [100-63-0] were refluxed in toluene in the presence of 36% HCl for 4 h to give white cryst. I (R = H) [96205-18-4], which turned purple on contact with O. I (R = H) was oxidized with chloranil to obtain II [96205-19-5], coloring PVC [9002-86-2] bright blue with excellent fastness to heat and light.
