DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 59 (Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene) A theor. model which addresses the adsorption and breakthrough of cantaminant vapors or gases with respect to solid sorbents was developed, and the theory was applied to the prediction of respirator cartridge service life in connection with individual contaminant exposure to PhMe [108-88-3], MeOAc [79-20-9], H2C:CHCl2 [75-01-4], and each of several different trichloroinated hydrocarbons at different concn. levels. Comparison of contaminant breakthrough curves derive from this new approach with previously published data showed that the breakthrough curves previously derived have approx. the same shape as the corresponding exptl. curves for 0-40% breakthrough; however, these curves deviate in varying degrees from the exptl. data at breakthrough values >40%. By contrast, the new theory agrees with published exptl. results over the entire range of 0-100% breakthrough; the new model is also less complicated and easier to apply to practical industrial hygiene problems than previously developed theories.
