Level of blood serum in rats treated with detergents. Szymaniec, Jan; Trzeciak, Henryk; Machalska, Halina; Turczynski, Boleslaw (Slaska Akad. Med., Zabrze, Pol.). Med. Pr., 28(3), 189-92 (Polish) 1977. CODEN: MEPAAX. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Treatment of rats with nonionic or ionic detergents increased blood serum total cholesterol [57-88-5] and decreased .beta.-lipoproteins. An increase in total lipid content was obsd. after long-term treatment with the nonionic detergent Olbrotol 18 [8065-81-4].

Surfactants including household detergents for controlling the black bean aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch (Hom., Aphididae). Salem, I. E. M.; Salem, A. E. M. (Fac. 8065-81-4 and 26027-38-3 are cas registry numbers. These chemicals are also mentioned in this article. Agric., Univ. Zagazig, Zagazig, Egypt). Meded. Fac. Landbouwwet., Rijksuniv. Gent, 48(2), 225-33 (English) 1983. CODEN: MFLRA3. ISSN: 0368-9697. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) The effectiveness (60-75% mortality) of surfactants for controlling A. craccivora (fed to the adult under lab. conditions) followed the order: ethylene oxide-p-nonylphenol condensate [26027-38-3] (5%) > Na dodecylbenzenesulfonate [25155-30-0] (1.2%) > ethylene oxide-p-hexylphenol condensate (I) [88504-15-8] (5%). Cationic surfactants, e.g., Anti-Germ 50 [62010-28-0], Cetrimide [8044-71-1], ethylene oxide-p-octylphenol condensate (II) [26636-32-8], ethylene oxide-oleylcetyl alc. condensate [8065-81-4], and K dodecylbenzenesulfonate [27177-77-1] were less effective (£20%) for controlling the aphid under lab. conditions. However, under field conditions, Anti-Germ 50 (2.5%), Cetrimide (5%), I (50%), and II (5%) caused 100% mortality of the aphid, but were phytotoxic to bean. Thus, Na dodecylbenzenesulfonate was the most acceptable controlling agent since it had no phytotoxic effects. .
