Characteristics of a system of polyconjugated bonds formed during the heat treatment of lignin
Characteristics of a system of polyconjugated bonds formed during the heat treatment of lignin. Bel'kova, L. P.; Skripchenko, T. N.; Domburgs, G. (Inst. Khim. Drev., Riga, USSR). Khim. Drev., (2), 39-41 (Russian) 1984. CODEN: KHDRDQ. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 43 (Cellulose, Lignin, Paper, and Other Wood Products) The pyrolysis of aspenwood and sprucewood hydrochloric acid lignin (I) [8068-11-9] increased the no. of polyconjugation units and their dimensions. Thus, the product from the heat treatment of sprucewood I at 300° contained 7.2 ′ 1017 paramagnetic centers/g and the conjugation unit contained 18 C atoms. A product obtained from heat treatment at 400° contained 1.8 ′ 1019 paramagnetic centers/g, and the polyconjugation unit had the same dimensions. Polyconjugation units obtained after heat treatment of aspenwood I at 300 and 400° increased 1.5- and 2.2-fold, resp. Addn. of 5% H3PO4 to I increased the no. of polyconjugation units without affecting their dimensions.
Characterization of the lignin residue from hydrolysis of sweetgum wood with superconcentrated hydrochloric acid
Characterization of the lignin residue from hydrolysis of sweetgum wood with superconcentrated hydrochloric acid. Winston, Marsha H.; Chen, Chen Loung; Gratzl, Josef S.; Goldstein, Irving S. (Dep. Wood Pap. Sci., North Carolina State Univ., Raleigh, NC 27695-8005, USA). Holzforschung, 40(Suppl.), 45-50 (English) 1986. CODEN: HOLZAZ. ISSN: 0018-3830. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 43 (Cellulose, Lignin, Paper, and Other Wood Products) Hydrochloric acid lignin (I) [8068-11-9] prepd. at moderate temp. from sweetgum is a high-mol. 8068-05-1 and 8068-04-0 which are cas registry numbers are also used here.-wt. material with low free phenolic content, high O content, high aliph. OH content, and comparatively high reactivity. It has limited soly. in several solvents with approx. one half dissolving in DMSO. Its IR spectra and anal. compn. were similar to those of milled wood lignin. I gives high yields of monomeric aldehydes on nitrobenzene oxidn. and showed comparatively high reactivity toward PhOH. I contains many of the reactive sites present in unaltered lignin. I has a degree of condensation appreciably higher than that of lignin in whole wood but considerably lower than Klason lignin [8068-04-0]. .
