DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 42 (Coatings, Inks, and Related Products) Section cross-reference(s): 37 Oxidn. of dicyclopentadiene (I) [77-73-6] with air at 100-110° in sunflower oil (25-100% based on I) and p-xylene (1 mol per 1 mol I) gave a mixt. of 2 monoepoxides and a diepoxide [81-21-0] of I, ketones, and some polyperoxides. The highest rate of epoxide formation was obtained in the presence of 25-30% oil. Coatings were prepd. from oxidn. products of I, polyol-transesterified sunflower and linseed oils, and a dicarboxylic acid anhydride. Increasing content of I in the mixt. to be oxidized increased the hardness of coatings after crosslinking and heat treatment. The obtained coatings were harder than the com. product GF-01 and had comparable impact and flexural strength.
