DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) When administered i.p. to mice, rats, and rabbits benzanthrone (I) [82-05-3] and its 3-bromo [81-96-9] and 3,9-dibromo [81-98-1] derivs. showed low acute and strong subchronic toxicity, esp. to the liver and blood. There were typical reactions of the lymphohistocyte elements and the appearance of plasmatic and fat cells. Introduction of a methoxy group or linkage of I rings decreased the toxicity.

Na2CO3, are deep yellow fluorescent dyes for plastics, e.g. poly(Me methacrylate) (II) [9011-14-7]. When blended with II by tumbling and extrusion, these compds. gave fluorescent yellow-green to yellow-orange dyeings with lightfastness 4-6, whereas known benzanthrones with R = R1 = H and the benzimidazolyl group replaced by 2-benzothiazolyl or p-tolyl gave only pale yellow dyeings with lightfastness 2-4. .
