DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 22 (Physical Organic Chemistry) The rate of reaction between o-O2NC6H4SeBr, and various para-substituted benzenesulfinates was studied using stopped-flow and conventional spectrophotometry. The relation of rate consts. in MeOH to .sigma. consts. and to the asym. S-O stretching frequencies in the Na salts showed that the transition state is stabilized by mesomeric electron-donating substituents in the nucleophile. The reaction between o-O2NC6H4SeR [R = SCN, p-MeOC6H4, SO2, Ph, SO2, S, and (H2N)2CS] and Me2NCS2- was studied kinetically in MeOH. The effects of leaving groups and solvents on the rate consts. were discussed in terms of the stereochem. of the reaction. .
