4-ETHYL-6,7-DIMETHOXY-9H-PYRIDO(3,4-B)INDOLE-3-CARBOXYLIC ACID, METHYL ESTE has anxiogenic and convulsant properties，and is used in scientific research to induce anxiety.So new anxiolytic medications can be tested.At the same tme,it can produce convulsions so that anticonvulsant medications can be tested,too. It has also been shown that it can produce analgesic effects in animals, duing to producing panic which can  reduce the perception of pain.
