This enzyme also hydroxylates cinnamic acid to 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, but the hydroxylation rate for this acid is ~1/3 that of Me cinnamate. A new biosynthetic pathway leading from L-phenylalanine to the major secondary metabolite Me 4-methoxycinnamate in this basidiomycete is proposed. .
