Norepinephrine-like effects of neuropeptide Y on LH release in the rat
Norepinephrine-like effects of neuropeptide Y on LH release in the rat. Kalra, S. P.; Crowley, W. R. (Coll. Med., Univ. Florida, Gainesville, FL 32610, USA). Life Sci., 35(11), 1173-6 (English) 1984. CODEN: LIFSAK. ISSN: 0024-3205. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Neuropeptide Y [83589-17-7] exhibited norepinephrine [51-41-2]-like effects on LH [9002-67-9] release after intracerebroventricular administration to rats at doses of 0.5-10 mg. Whereas it promptly suppressed LH release in ovariectomized rats, there was a dose-related stimulation of LH secretion in ovarian steroid primed-ovariectomized rats. Since neuropeptide Y may coexist with adrenergic neurotransmitters, these findings suggest that it may play a role in regulation of LH release in the rat, either independently or in concert with catecholamines.
Regulatory peptides - the distribution of two newly discovered peptides: PHI and NPY
Regulatory peptides - the distribution of two newly discovered peptides: PHI and NPY. Polak, J. M.; Bloom, S. R. (R. Postgrad. Med. Sch., Hammersmith Hosp., London W12 0HS, UK). Peptides (Fayetteville, N. Y.), 5(Suppl. 1), 79-89 (English) 1984. CODEN: PPTDD5. ISSN: 0196-9781. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Immunocytochem. and radioimmunoassay were used to reveal the broad distributions of PHI [80458-29-3] and NPY [83589-17-7] (neuropeptide with tyrosine) in neurons of the central nervous system and the majority of peripheral tissues. Tissues which are particularly well provided with these peptides include gut, pancreas, respiratory tract, skin, and the genitourinary and cardiovascular systems. In most peripheral tissues, PHI-contg. ganglion cells occur locally. NPY-contg. fibers originate in part from cell bodies outside the tissues, in the sympathetic nervous system. Comparative studies indicate that PHI and VIP [37221-79-7] are co-stored in the same neuron and are identically distributed, thus suggesting the existence of a common precursor and subsequent gene duplication. The possible co-existence of catecholamines and NPY, suggested by the consistent finding of very similar distributions of the 2 substances, was investigated using antibodies to converting enzymes involved in catecholamine synthesis (tyrosine hydroxylase [9036-22-0] and dopamine-b-hydroxylase [9013-38-1]). The 2 enzymes and NPY were found together in at least part of the same neuronal system.
