- Heat-sensitive adhesive polymer dispersions. (Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 59008777 A2 18 Jan 1984 Showa, 7 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C09J003-00. APPLICATION: JP 82-118077 7 Jul 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 38 (Plastics Fabrication and Uses) Aq. emulsions of polymer compns. which dry to form films which are nontacky at room temp., but become good pressure-sensitive adhesives upon heating briefly above min. film-forming temp. (Tf) are manufd. by mixing 1-9 parts aq. dispersion of adhesive resins having softening temp. 50-130°, and 9-1 part aq. dispersions of 30-80% thermoplastic resins and 70-20% plasticizers. Thus, a 35%-solid aq. dispersion of .9:25.4 Bu methacrylate-N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate-lauryl methacrylate copolymer acetate [88542-39-6] 20, glycerin esters of rosin acids 100, and hot water 70 parts/h were combined in an extruder screw at 110° to form an emulsion having Tf 65°. This emulsion 22.9, hot water 147.1, and mixt. of EVA [24937-78-8] (28% VA) and dicyclohexyl phthalate [84-61-7] 100 parts/h were mixed in an extruder screw to form a 40%-solids emulsion having av. particle size 0.5 m, which when applied to paper and allowed to dry 1 day at 20°, formed a thin (20 g/m2) nontacky film, which when heated to 100° for 10 s became tacky, and when pressed at 2 kg/cm2 and 23° against a polyethylene film formed a laminate having peel strength 960 g/15 mm.

- Heat-activated pressure sensitive adhesive for bonding label stock to plastic film, metal foil and the like. Hume, Robert M., III (Fuller, H. G., Co., USA). U.S. US 4427744 A 24 Jan 1984, 9 pp. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: USXXAM. CLASS: IC: B32B015-08; C08L093-00; C09J005-02. NCL: 428462000. APPLICATION: US 82-409405 19 Aug 1982. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 38 (Plastics Fabrication and Uses) A heat-activated pressure-sensitive adhesive useful for bonding labels to plastic fibers, metal foils, and cigaret papers comprises an aq. emulsion of a rubber, a rosin deriv., and a plasticizer which optionally contains urea, a urea compd., and(or) a polyhydroxy compd. in the aq. phase. Thus, into 300 g of an dispersion of a thermoplastic resinous material comprising ~40% solids of a glycerol ester of polymd. rosin (Dressinol 155) was added 32.5 g aq. rubber latex having ~70% solids comprising a carboxylated butadiene-styrene rubber (Polysar latex 680). The mixt. 57-13-6 and 9002-88-4 are also in the experiment. was mixed until uniform, and 155 g dicyclohexyl phthalate [84-61-7] was added slowly at a rate such that the solid quickly dispersed into the emulsion. Into the smooth dispersion of rubber, resin, and plasticizer was added an addnl. 2.5 g H2O and 10 g urea which quickly dissolved in the aq. phase. The adhesive had blocking temp. 130°F and freezer peel test value 4.0 (film tear) with 0.5 mil vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer [9011-06-7] film and 2.0 with 0.6 mil polyethylene [9002-88-4] film. .
