- Interaction parameters and miscibility limits of poly(dimethylsiloxane) and dinonyl phthalate or squalane determined from studies of the absorption of hexane by the binary liquid mixtures. Ashworth, Anthony J.; Price, Gareth J. (Sch. Chem., Univ. Bath, Bath BA2 7AY, UK). J. Chem. Soc., Faraday Trans. 1, 81(2), 473-83 (English) 1985. CODEN: JCFTAR. ISSN: 0300-9599. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Physical Properties of Synthetic High Polymers) Hexane [110-54-3] was used as a probe to det. interactions in liq. mixts. of di-Me siloxane (no.-av. mol. wt. 3350-89,000) with dinonyl phthalate (I) [84-76-4] or squalane [111-01-3] by measuring their absorption of hexane at 303 K using a vacuum microbalance. The data gave consistent interaction parameters between nonvolatile components. These were used to predict miscibility limits to within 3% for the I blends and 4% for squalene blends. Flory-Huggins theory based on vol. fractions gave a better fit to the data and a better estn. of cloud points of partially miscible mixts. than that using segment fractions as in the later Flory theory.

- Study of molecular mobility in plasticized poly(vinyl fluoride) by radiothermoluminescence and thermomechanical methods. Gafirov, A. Kh.; Mukhiddinov, B. F.; Asamov, M. K.; Nikol'skii, V. G.; Filippov, V. V. (Tashk. Gos. Univ., Tashkent, USSR). Vysokomol. Soedin., Ser. B, 26(9), 673-5 (Russian) 1984. CODEN: VYSBAI. ISSN: 0507-5483. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Radiothermoluminescence (RTL) and thermomech. methods were used to study the mol. mobility in poly(vinyl fluoride) (I) [24981-14-4] plasticized with £30% dinonyl phthalate (II) [84-76-4] at 77-373 K. Max. RTL intensity was obsd. at 110-140 and 300-350 K. The low-temp. RTL max. of I was shifted to higher temps. by plasticization and its intensity increased with increasing II content. The glass transition temp. detd. from RTL data) and m.p. of I (detd. from thermomech. data) decreased with increasing II content.
