- Effect of multivitamin administration on dogs during intravenous hyperalimentation
- Effect of multivitamin administration on dogs during intravenous hyperalimentation. Shoji, Eitoshi; Nakamori, Kota; Yamashita, Takumi; Ota, Yoshikazu; Ogawa, Yoshihiro (Tokyo 115, Japan). Bitamin, 58(5-6), 197-211 (Japanese) 1984. CODEN: BTMNA7. ISSN: 0006-386X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Blood vitamin levels, objective symptoms, and pathol. findings were obsd. in dogs following i.v. hyperalimentation (IVH) after 4 wk with 2 kinds of multivitamin injections, NK-041 (trial prepn.) and MVI (com. prepn.), and they were compared with those of untreated dogs. Eight dogs were divided into 3 groups, control group (no vitamins administered), NK-041-adminstered group, and MVI-administered group. Two of the 3 dogs of the control group died during IVH feeding. Their death was thought to be mainly caused by vitamin B1 deficiency. On the other hand, the dogs of the 2 vitamin-treated groups were healthy and active through this expt. Pathol. studies showed abnormalities in the liver of the control group, but no abnormalities were found in the 2 treated groups. Four vitamins (vitamin B12 [68-19-9], folic acid [59-30-3], biotin [58-85-5], and vitamin K1 [84-80-0]) are contained in NK-041, but not contained in MVI. Blood levels of vitamin B12 and folic acid were higher in the NK-041 group than those in the MVI group. The hepatic levels of vitamin B12, folic acid, and biotin were higher in the NK-041 group than those in the MVI group. The vitamin levels in blood suggest that the vitamin contents of NK-041 were suitable and satisfactory.
- Change of blood vitamin levels after one shot administration of a multivitamin preparation to dogs
- Change of blood vitamin levels after one shot administration of a multivitamin preparation to dogs. Nakagawa, Toshiko; Yazawa, Yuichi; Matsuda, Ryuzo; Nakamori, Kota; Shoji, Eitoshi (Tokyo 115, Japan). Bitamin, 58(5-6), 213-19 (Japanese) 1984. CODEN: BTMNA7. ISSN: 0006-386X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Section cross-reference(s): 13 Biol. half-lives of vitamins were calcd. by fitting a 1- or a 2-compartment model after a single rapid i.v. administration of a multivitamin (NK-041) to dogs. Half-lives of water-sol. vitamins (vitamin B1 [59-43-8], B2 [83-88-5], B6 [8059-24-3], B12 [68-19-9], C [50-81-7], folic acid [59-30-3], and biotin [58-85-5]) were short, ~2-10 min, in a-phase and wide ranging, 13 min-5 h, in b-phase. On the other hand, the half-lives of pantothenic acid [79-83-4] and nicotinic acid [59-67-6] were 3.99 and 5.67 h, resp., which were relatively long among the vitamins tested. The half-life of vitamin A palmitate [79-81-2] was the longest, ~26 h, and the values for vitamin K1 [84-80-0] and E (tocopheryl acetate [1406-70-8]) were 1.66 and 1.24 h, resp. On the other hand, the half-life of vitamin D2 [50-14-6] was short, 16 min. Vitamin D2 might be metabolized rapidly into its 25-hydroxy deriv. However, this metabolite could not be detected in the blood within 240 min.
