The amt. of epichlorohydrin required to attain max. concn. of epoxy groups (18.00-22.63%) in the reaction products decreased from 20.0 to 6.5% per OH group with increasing acidity of bisphenols. The ethers were polymd. with bisphenol to give resins having epoxy group content 7.75-16.50% and mol. wt. 440-1000. The resins were cured 1.0-4.0 h at 170° with a polyethylene glycol-pyromellitic anhydride adduct to give coatings having gel content 91.0-95.0% and 10% wt. loss at 280-320°. The thermal stability of the coatings increased in the order I < IV < VI < V ~ III < II. .
