DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) Section cross-reference(s): 2 Dry skin is treated by application of a gel, tincture, cream, or ointment contg. dehydroepiandrosterone (I) [53-43-0] or its acetate [853-23-6]. I was effective in increasing the size of hamster ear sebaceous glands when a 1% tincture was applied, and was assocd. with no significant systemic effects, as compared with other androgens. A tincture contained: I 1, butylene glycol 4, H2O 6, and EtOH 89%.
- Effect of dehydroepiandrosterone on the responses of rats to starvation-refeeding
- Effect of dehydroepiandrosterone on the responses of rats to starvation-refeeding. Mohn, Regina; Berdanier, Carolyn D. (Dep. Foods Nutr., Univ. Georgia, Athens, GA 30602, USA). Nutr. Rep. Int., 30(5), 1255-60 (English) 1984. CODEN: NURIBL. ISSN: 0029-6635. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) The effect of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) [53-43-0] on the responses of rats to starvation-refeeding was studied. Rats were either fed ad libitum a 65% glucose [50-99-7] diet or starved for 48 h and refed the glucose diet for 48 h. Ad libitum-fed and starved-refed rats were injected with either dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate [651-48-9], dehydroepiandrosterone acetate [853-23-6], or vehicle. At the end of the expt. the rats were killed and the livers used for the detn. of lipid and enzyme activities. The typical enzyme overshoot response to starvation-refeeding was suppressed by both forms of the drug, however, the acetate was less active than the sulfate. The liver lipid response to starvation refeeding was suppressed by DHEA sulfate but not by DHEA acetate. The drug had little effect on these parameters in ad libitum-fed rats. Apparently, DHEA exerts its effect on the activity of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase [9001-40-5] only when there is a need for a rapid increase in the synthesis of the enzyme.
