DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 56 (Nonferrous Metals and Alloys) The extra max. appearing in the electron diffraction patterns from b-Cu-Zn-Al [88361-95-9] and b-Cu-Zn [86376-49-0] alloys was attributed to surface martensite. The disappearance and reappearance of the extra max. in alloys indicate that surface martensite is stable at higher temp. than the corresponding bulk martensite. In addn., the phase exists at £470 K in alloys in which no bulk martensitic transformations occur. The microstructure of surface martensite was studied. The streaming phenomenon was also considered, and its origin examd. .
