CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08F004-56. APPLICATION: JP 76-75195 25 Jun 1976. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Dimethylalkylcarbinol Na salts obtained from Na and C4-8 dimethylalkylcarbinol in an inert solvent at >70° were used as the Na alkoxide component in alfin catalyst manuf. For example, 80 g cyclohexane in an autoclave was mixed with 11.5 g Na dispersed in 25.5 g liq. paraffin, treated with 37.1 g Me3COH [75-65-0] at 110° over 2 h, and heat at 130° for 30 min to give a Me3CONa (I) [865-48-5] dispersion. Cyclohexane (148 g) was treated with 11.5 g Na dispersed in 50.5 g liq. paraffin, heated to 40°, treated with 23.1 g BuCl over 2 h, kept 1 h, treated with 12.6 g propylene at 70° for 2 h, mixed with the I dispersion, and heated at 70° for 4 h to give an alfin catalyst. A soln. (60 g) prepd. from butadiene 8.5, styrene 1.5, cyclohexane 90, vinyl chloride 0.01, dichlorobenzene 0.05, and 1,4-dihydronaphthalene 0.05 part was heated with 1 g alfin catalyst at 60° for 2 h to give butadiene-styrene copolymer [9003-55-8] in 98.3% yield and allylsodium yield (in catalyst) 97%, compared with 8.5 and 5.6, resp., for I prepd. at 40°.

CODEN: GWXXBX. CLASS: IC: C08F036-04. APPLICATION: DE 76-43614 19 Apr 1976. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 38 (Elastomers, Including Natural Rubber) Diene rubbers are prepd. with high mol. wt. and in high yield by polymn. in the presence of catalysts contg. C3-8 alkenylsodium and RCMe2ONa (R = C1-5 alkyl). Thus, stirring butadiene 90, styrene 10, C6H3Cl3 [12002-48-1] (mol. wt. regulator) 1.0, and cyclohexane 900 g with 6.8 mmol allylsodium [2521-40-6] and ~14 mmol Me3CONa [865-48-5] 60 min at 40° gives 95% SBR, intrinsic viscosity (PhMe, 25°) 2.5, styrene content 9.8%, microstructure 61% trans-1,4 and 39% vinyl, polydispersity 3.8.
