DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Renal and hepatic GSH [70-18-8] concns. were examd. after treatment of male rats with hexachloro-1,3-butadiene (HCBD) [87-68-3] or citrinin (I) [518-75-2] alone and in combination, and after pretreatment with the GSH-depleting agent di-Et maleate (DEM) [141-05-9]. Both renal and hepatic GSH depletion were greater when either I or HCBD was given following DEM. The effect was particularly striking when the doses used were so low as to be ineffective when given alone. When HCBD and I were given in combination, the effect on GSH was approx. additive. Renal tubular org. ion transport in kidney slices was also compromised significantly when either I or HCBD followed pretreatment with DEM. With HCBD, depression of tetraethylammonium (TEA) transport was seen after DEM; when given alone, HCBD had no effect on TEA transport.
