DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 12 Some compds. of Sargassum dentifolium collected from the Mediterranean coast of Egypt were identified, and the activity of leaf exts. towards insects was studied. The chem. study comprised: phytochem. screening and proximate anal., anal. of proteins and amino acids as well as the fatty acids and unsaponifiable fractions from lipoidal matter, and GC-MS anal. of volatiles obtained by hydrodistn. Moreover, the carbohydrate content of the alga was qual. and quant. analyzed. Mannitol, alginic acid, and mucilages were investigated applying chromatog. techniques. Diisooctyl phthalate was isolated for the first time from Sargassum dentifolium. Exts. from the alga exhibited potential insecticidal effects against the cotton leaf worm Spodoptera littoralis at different stages of life cycle. .
- Variation in potentiality of phosphate-solubilizing soil microorganisms with phosphate and energy source
- Variation in potentiality of phosphate-solubilizing soil microorganisms with phosphate and energy source. Banik, Shyamal (Coll. Agric., Calcutta Univ., Calcutta 700019, India). Zentralbl. Mikrobiol., 138(3), 209-16 (English) 1983. CODEN: ZEMIDI. ISSN: 0232-4393. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 19 (Fertilizers, Soils, and Plant Nutrition) Two West Bengal Indian soils, a representative acid lateritic soil (Typic Ochraqualf) and a representative neutral alluvial one (Fluvaquent), were both rich in inorg. phosphate, the former in FePO4 and AlPO4 and the latter in Ca3(PO4)2. In both soils more P was solubilized from Ca3(PO4)2 than from other phosphates by microorganisms. The no. of AlPO4 and FePO4 solubilizer was strongly correlated to the amt. of the resp. insol. phosphates in the 2 soils. The lateritic soil was more effective. Among 4 C sources, glucose [50-99-7] resulted in the highest solubilizing ability after 10 days in lateritic soil and after 3 days in alluvial soil, but sucrose [57-50-1] showed the best performance on an av. basis. Mannitol [69-65-8] was utilized with less efficiency, whereas NaOAc [127-09-3] was poorly utilized by lateritic soil microorganisms and not at all by the alluvial soil microflora. In all the cases studied in both soils, the phosphate-solubilizing curve represents the dominance of fungal flora, although the no. of fungi was low. In most cases the max. power was reached within 10-12 days, and 37° was a better incubation temp. than 30°.
