DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 64 (Pharmaceutical Analysis) Section cross-reference(s): 80 A rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method for the detn. of piperazine [110-85-0], and its salts, diethylcarbamazine citrate (I citrate) [1642-54-2], and the N-methylpiperazine [109-01-3] contaminant in I citrate is based on the formation of donor-acceptor complexes between the piperazine and chloranilic acid [87-88-7]. The complexes have characteristic absorbance max. at about 345 nm and are measured in CHCl3-iso-PrOH (4:1). The system obeys Beer's law for 1-10 mg/mL. Recoveries were 86.5-100%, and compared well with those of the official method. The relative std. deviations were 1.77-3.97%.
